Feature Request System WordPress Plugin

2 min read

Released Oct 2026 Version 1.0.0 Requires WordPress 6.6+, PHP 7.4+

Feature Request System adds a feature request board to your WordPress site. People suggest features and vote for the ones they want. You give each request a status, such as Planned, In Progress or Shipped, and everyone who voted for it gets an email when the status changes.

Feature Request System on WordPress.org

What it does

  • A board with one-click voting. Visitors search, filter and sort the requests, and vote without reloading the page.
  • Fewer duplicates. While someone types a title, the form lists similar requests, so they vote for one instead of posting the same idea again.
  • A page for every request, with comments and your team’s official response.
  • Emails that close the loop. Voters follow a request and hear about every status change, sent in the background with a link to stop.
  • Blocks and shortcodes for the board, the form, a short list of the most wanted requests and a card for one request. They take their look from your theme, and work without JavaScript and behind a page cache.
  • Spam stopped without a captcha: a hidden field, a minimum time to fill in the form and rate limits, plus Akismet if you use it.

How it works

  1. People suggest and vote. Add the Feature Request Board and Feature Request Form blocks to a page, or insert the Feature request page pattern, which has both. Each board decides who can vote, who can suggest features, and whether new requests wait for your approval.
  2. You set the status. Under Feature Requests in the admin, sort by votes to see what people want most, then change a status from the edit screen, Quick Edit or Bulk Edit.
  3. Everyone hears about it. Followers get an email five minutes after a status change, so a status picked by mistake can be corrected first.

The same blocks are available as shortcodes: [feature_requests] for the board, [feature_request_form] for the form, [feature_request_list] for a short list and [feature_request id="123"] for one request.

Private and accessible

  • Everything is stored in your own WordPress database, and no IP addresses are stored.
  • Names and emails from visitors are shown only to moderators, never publicly.
  • Personal data can be exported and erased with WordPress’s privacy tools.
  • The board, the form and the request pages aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA, and work with a keyboard and without JavaScript.
  • On a multisite network, each site has its own boards, requests, votes and settings.

Source code and support

The code is on GitHub, and questions go to the support forum on WordPress.org. The plugin also has a page on the site of Master WebTools, my studio.
